JUST ONE RUPEE A DAY-- A new experiment in development

ProjectWHY was launched to promote and evolve the concept of locally integrated and locally supported education support system, where learning is enjoyed and valued. The Giri nagar programme was to be a resource centre acting as a lab to develop and package replicable units. Its mains aim is to develop the following:

1. course definition and content,
2. teacher's profiles,
3. operating system from the community,
4. funding methods feasible by the community to ensure sustainability.

Just one rupee a day is the funding option we feel would work.

Just one rupee a day - our vision
A different approach to funding

For any organisation, the biggest challenge is sustainability. how to overcome funding issues and stand on one's own.
For any community development programme to be useful, it is important to ensure that all the resources needed are available from within the community itself.

From the very beginning, projectWHY has sought to get funding through a wide base of funders. it stayed away from government and other funding institutions. it was an intuitive reaction that often seemed illogical to many. it somehow almost defeated the concept of the (ill)famed NGO world!
but for those who had created projectWHY, independence was of the essence, and nothing short of that was acceptable.

Education or any form of social support made no sense if it could not live beyond the *generosity* of funders, often short lived!
So the dream was to empower the beneficiaries so that they could ultimately find the resources to run education or other support programmes. projectWHY was to be a model.

It was obvious that slum dwellers would not be able to access large sums of money through complex procedures, so one had to find a funding option that would be doable...

The 1 rupee option is just that. A funding option that is open to anyone, even the poorest person. one rupee can easily be set aside each day and that rupee becomes an incredible pool that can be utilised for social empowerment.

And above all the 1 rupee option is a funding activity that can be steered by anyone, as it does not require complex forms to be filled, but simply conviction and honesty, something teamProjectWHY has in abundance!
